MUMBAI – Pipe manufacturer Finolex Industries Ltd. reported a double-digit growth in its net profit for the June quarter despite a sharp decline in its revenue from operations. The company reported a net profit of INR 1.07 billion for the June quarter, up 11% on year from INR 969.3 million in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had estimated the profit at INR 1.30 billion. The pipe manufacturer reported a revenue from operations of INR 8.84 billion, down 15% on year from INR 10.43 billion, primarily due to lower sales volume. The Street estimated the revenue to be INR 12.06 billion.
The total income for the June quarter fell 13% on year to INR 9.59 billion. Other income rose 16% on year to INR 753 million. The company's total expenses were also down by 17% to INR 8.11 billion. There was an increase in changes in inventories of finished goods, stock-in-trade and work-in-progress by over 43% to INR 972 million, employee benefit expenses slipped 6% to INR 551 million, and other expenses fell over 3% to INR 1.82 billion.
The company reported volume of 67,699 tonnes for the June quarter, down 27% from 92,129 tonnes, mainly due to weak demand and volatility in prices of polyvinyl chloride. Finolex Industries reported earnings before interest and tax for the June quarter at INR 790 million, up 18% from INR 670 million a year ago.
Thursday, the company's shares closed 2.5% higher at INR 171.31 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. Finolex Industries announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
