MUMBAI – G R Infraprojects Ltd. Thursday reported better-than-expected consolidated net profit and revenues for the June quarter. The company earned net profit 80% higher than analysts' estimates and revenues 38% higher than expectations.

G R Infra reported a consolidated net profit of INR 3.57 billion, up over 46% on year from INR 2.44 billion. Analysts had expected the bottom line to decline to INR 1.98 billion owing to a rise in input costs and tepid revenue growth. The net profit growth for the quarter under review was helmed by a one-time gain of INR 612 million from an associate company. Even after adjusting for the one-time gain, the profit was sharply higher than the year-ago quarter and the estimate.

The company earned INR 27.84 billion in revenue from operations, up 40% on year from INR 19.88 billion. Brokerages had estimated a marginal rise in the top line to INR 20.23 billion.

The company's total expenses were INR 24.65 billion, up 40% on year. The biggest chunk of its expenses--construction--grew 48% to INR 19.04 billion. The company's other expenses more than doubled to INR 1.18 billion.

The company's standalone net profit was INR 2.03 billion, down 6% on year, while its revenue from operations was INR 24.23 billion, up 33% on year. Its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 2.67 billion, up 16% on year. However, its EBITDA margin contracted by 163 basis points to 11.02%. The company's profit margin contracted by 342 bps to 8.4%.

G R Infra's order book, as of Jun. 30, was INR 253.2 billion. Around 70% of its orders are for road construction, 9% for power transmission projects, 7% for tunnel works, 4% for telecom projects, 3% for railways and metros, and 2% for multi-modal logistics parks. More than half of its orders are from the National Highways Authority of India.

The company reported its financial results for the June quarter after market hours Thursday. Its shares ended at INR 889.95 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, marginally down from Wednesday.  End
