MUMBAI – Aster DM Quality Care Ltd. reported a lower-than-expected net profit for the June quarter, weighed down by a one-time expense. The healthcare company posted a consolidated net profit of INR 160.6 million, down 81% from INR 855.2 million for the year-ago quarter. Analysts had estimated the net profit at INR 1.15 billion. The company reported a one-time cost of INR 1.14 billion towards professional fees and other costs related to the merger of Aster DM Healthcare Ltd. and Blackstone-backed Quality Care India Ltd.

 

Revenue from operations was INR 13.11 billion, up 22% from INR 10.78 billion. The revenue was estimated at INR 12.36 billion.

 

The company's total expenses rose to INR 11.47 billion, up 19% on year. Its expenses on the purchase of medicines and medical consumables rose 22% to INR 3 billion. Expenses on professional fees to consultant doctors rose 23% to INR 2.95 billion and employee benefits expense rose 24% to INR 2.42 billion, further weighing down the company's bottom line.

 

Revenues were driven by higher patient volumes, improved realisations, and the ramping up of its Kasargod facility. The company reported operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation of INR 5.76 billion for the June quarter, up 30% on year. The operating EBITDA margin expanded 170 basis points on year to 22.2%.

 

The company reported average revenue per patient for an in-patient of INR 136,802, up 10% on year, driven by growth in high-end tertiary procedures like robotic surgeries, transplants, and joint replacements. The company's operational capacity was 10,559 beds at the end of the June quarter. The company's total patient volume was 2.01 million, up 13% on year. 

 

Wednesday, shares of Aster DM Quality Care ended at INR 842.10 on the National Stock Exchange, up almost 1% from Tuesday. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours.  End
