MUMBAI – JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd. reported a decline in its net profit for the June quarter as expenses grew faster than revenue. However, the company's net profit and revenue exceeded the Street's estimates.
The company's net profit fell 28% on-year to INR 1.08 billion in the June quarter. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit at INR 966.57 million. The company's revenue from operations rose 9% on year to INR 19.05 billion, driven by growth in its sales volume in the June quarter. Sales volume rose to 3.60 million tonnes during the quarter from 3.33 million tonnes a year ago. Analysts had estimated the company's top line at INR 17.70 billion.
JK Lakshmi Cement's total expenses rose 14% on year to INR 17.80 billion in the June quarter. The company's largest expense, power and fuel cost, grew 13% on year to INR 4.28 billion. Transport, clearing & forwarding charges rose 4% on year to INR 4.14 billion. The cost of materials consumed rose 21% on year to INR 3.20 billion. Other expenses rose 24% on year to INR 2.77 billion.
The company expects demand to be supported by sustained infrastructure spending and institutional project activity, it said in a presentation. The war in West Asia is expected to affect crude oil and pet coke prices, weighing on the company's cost outlook, it said.
JK Lakshmi Cement said it will acquire a minimum of 26% stake in STLC RE 1 Ltd., a special purpose vehicle for purchase of solar power under the applicable group captive power route, for a consideration of INR 205 million. The acquisition is expected to be completed by Dec. 31.
Wednesday, JK Lakshmi Cement's shares closed 0.1% higher at INR 571.25 on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
