MUMBAI/NEW DELHI – Cummins India Ltd. Wednesday reported a moderate year-on-year fall in net profit for the June quarter despite posting double-digit revenue growth. The company's total expenses grew faster than its revenue during the quarter, weighing on the bottom line. Cummins India's revenue exceeded the Street's estimates, while its net profit missed projections. Its total expense grew at the fastest pace in four quarters.
The company reported a net profit of INR 5.43 billion in the June quarter, down around 8% on year, and below expectations of INR 6.09 billion. Its revenue for the quarter rose nearly 18% on year to INR 34.26 billion, much higher than projections of INR 32.14 billion. Sequentially, the company's net profit fell over 16%, while revenue rose nearly 14%.
Cummins India's total expenses grew nearly 23% on year to INR 28.66 billion, led by a rise in raw material costs. Its raw material costs increased nearly 18% on year to INR 20.94 billion. Other expenses rose 18% on year to INR 2.98 billion and employee benefit expenses increased nearly 17% to INR 2.33 billion.
