--Govt extends Cabinet secy T V Somanathan's tenure by 1 yr beyond Aug 30
NEW DELHI – The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Wednesday extended the tenure of T.V. Somanathan as Cabinet secretary by a year beyond Aug. 30. "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in service of Dr. T.V. Somanathan, IAS (TN:87) as Cabinet Secretary for a further period of one year beyond 30.08.2026," according to the notification.
Somanathan had replaced Rajiv Gauba as Cabinet secretary in August 2024. He was originally appointed for two years. Somanathan is a 1987 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre. He was appointed finance secretary in 2021. End
