--RBI Malhotra: To issue draft direction on credit oversight on rural banks
MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra Wednesday said the central bank will issue draft amendment directions on credit oversight in rural cooperative banks after undertaking a comprehensive review of the credit monitoring arrangement, while addressing the prudential concerns arising from concentrated lending. The credit monitoring arrangement instructions were last revised in 2008.
"As the banking sector in general, and co-operative banking sector in particular, have undergone significant expansion and changes since then, it has been decided to review these instructions, keeping in view the objectives of developing a vibrant co-operative sector while addressing the prudential concerns arising from concentrated lending," the statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies said.
