MUMBAI – Bayer Cropscience Ltd. is expected to report a decline in its standalone net profit and revenue for the June quarter due to a delay in the monsoon and a shift in farmer sentiment, according to brokerages tracking the company.
Bayer Cropscience is expected to report a standalone net profit between INR 1.99 billion and INR 2.57 billion, according to the estimates from three brokerages. This will be down on year but up sequentially. The highest estimate for the company's net profit is from Kotak Securities and the lowest is from 360 ONE Capital Market Pvt Ltd.
The company's net sales are expected to decline on year to between INR 17.61 billion and INR 18.19 billion from INR 19.15 billion reported in the year-ago quarter, according to the estimates. Sequentially, the company's net sales are expected to be up from INR 11.01 billion. The highest estimate for the company's net sales is from Kotak Securities and the lowest is from 360 ONE.
Bayer Cropscience's June quarter revenue is expected to decline due to the late arrival of monsoon, brokerages said. Due to this, farmers will most likely shift away from corn hybrid seeds which is a high water consuming crop. Corn hybrid seeds are expected to constitute around 25% of the company's sales in the June quarter. The company's earnings will be impacted the most among agrochemicals companies due to its significant dependence on corn hybrid seeds and its almost exclusive reliance on the domestic market, Kotak said.
Agrochemicals companies are expected to report subdued revenue growth because of the late monsoons which has delayed the Kharif season sowing, brokerages said. The industry implemented price hikes between March and May to reduce the impact of inflation in raw material costs caused by the war in West Asia. However, these price hikes are likely to be rolled back because of subdued demand. Brokerages expect sales to improve in the September quarter as demand for the second crop is likely to be good.
Kotak Securities expects the company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation at INR 3.40 billion, down over 2% on year. Brokerages 360 ONE and Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers Ltd. expect the company's EBITDA margin for the quarter to contract 100-340 basis points from 18.2% in the year-ago quarter.
Bayer Cropscience manufactures insecticides, fungicides, herbicide, and various other agrochemical products, corn and other seeds. At 1118 IST, shares of Bayer Cropscience were traded at INR 4,285 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, marginally up from Monday. The stock is down 7% since the company announced its March quarter earnings on May 26.
Only one brokerage report is available on the company with Informist, which has a ‘buy' recommendation on the stock with a target price of INR 6,100. The target price is 42% higher than the closing price Tuesday.
Following are the June quarter earnings estimates, in INR billion, for Bayer Cropscience from three brokerage firms in descending order of net profit:
