NEW DELHI – Dabur India Ltd. Tuesday said it has started transitioning labels and advertisements of products with "100%" claims, flagged by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, while maintaining that its declarations comply with the prevailing legal and regulatory framework.
This comes after the authority issued a prohibition order directing Dabur to immediately cease the sale of food products claiming to be "100%" pure, organic, and so on. According to the authority, the use of such claims violates the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018, as they are "ambiguous, unverifiable and likely to mislead consumers".
The company said most product labels, advertisements, and website content mentioned in the authority's notice have either already been changed or are in the process of being updated to remove the "100%" claim. "Dabur stands by the purity and quality of its products and has never made any misleading claims," the company said in a statement. It said it will respond to the notice and continue to engage constructively with the regulator to resolve the matter. It has also sought legal advice on the future course of action.
For the June quarter, Dabur reported consolidated net profit of INR 5.91 billion on revenues of INR 37.64 billion. Tuesday, its shares ended at INR 409.65 on the National Stock Exchange, down 3.8% from Monday. End
