Central banks' net gold buys at 51 tn in Jun; Poland, China lead, says WGC

MUMBAI – Leading global central banks net bought 51 tonnes of gold in June, with Poland and China continuing in the lead, the World Gold Council said Tuesday. The National Bank of Poland was the largest buyer during the month, adding 19 tonnes of gold, followed by the People's Bank of China at 15 tonnes, marking its 20th consecutive month of net purchases. In May, net gold purchases were 41 tonnes.
On the other hand, Russia was the largest net seller in June, selling 9 tonnes of gold, followed by Turkey at 2 tonnes, the council said. Among sellers, Turkey remained the largest net seller so far this year at 83 tonnes, while Russia's cumulative net sales reached 44 tonnes, it added.
In June, other major net buyers were the Central Bank of Uzbekistan at 9 tonnes, followed by the Central Bank of Kazakhstan and the Monetary Authority of Singapore each at 7 tonnes. Other buyers included Jordan at 3 tonnes, the Czech Republic at 2 tonnes, and Ghana and Georgia at 1 tonne each. According to the council, Jordan, Ghana, and Georgia re-entered the market in June.
Meanwhile, central bank net purchases totalled 102 tonnes as of the first half of 2026. The buying was spread across a broad group of emerging-market central banks. Poland remained the largest buyer of gold year-to-date, with cumulative purchases of 82 tonnes, followed by Uzbekistan at 41 tonnes, China at 40 tonnes, and Kazakhstan at 27 tonnes. Other major net buyers included the Czech Republic, Singapore, Chile, Jordan, and Ghana, the council said. End
