MUMBAI – ASK Automotive Ltd. posted a sharp jump in its consolidated revenue from operations, but higher expenses on cost of materials consumed and a rise in other expenses capped net profit growth. Both headline metrics beat the Street's estimates by a wide margin.

The braking system maker reported a net profit of INR 851.2 million for the June quarter, up 29% on year and up 8% sequentially. The consensus estimate was INR 738 million. Revenues rose 52% on year to INR 13.58 billion from INR 8.91 billion. The estimate was INR 11.76 billion.

Total expenses rose 54% on year to INR 12.46 billion for the June quarter. The cost of materials consumed surged 65% to INR 10.26 billion. Other expenses grew 32% to INR 1.95 billion.

The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter rose 33% to INR 1.64 billion. The company said the EBITDA benefited from increasing capacity utilisation at Karoli and the new Bangalore facility and the closure of its low-value-added wheel assembly business. The EBITDA margin for the June quarter contracted 176 basis points to 12% from 13.8% a year ago. A sudden and sharp increase in aluminium prices weighed down the margin, the company said in its investor presentation.

The company's advance braking system segment recorded a 48% on-year rise in revenues for the June quarter and the safety control cables segment grew 20%. Sales from the aluminium light-weight precision solutions segment surged 75% to INR 7.84 billion and contributed most to total revenues.

Tuesday, the company started commercial production of high-pressure die-cast alloy wheels for two-wheelers.

Shares of ASK Automotive ended at INR 551.30 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down over 3% from Monday. The June quarter earnings were disclosed after market hours.  End
