MUMBAI – Deepak Nitrite Ltd. Tuesday reported a threefold jump in consolidated net profit for the June quarter, beating the Street's estimate by a wide margin. The strong earnings were driven by robust growth in revenue from operations, which also exceeded analysts' estimates.
The speciality chemicals manufacturer's consolidated net profit was INR 3.45 billion for the June quarter, up 208% from INR 1.12 billion a year ago. Sequentially, the net profit rose 57%. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit at INR 2.17 billion. The company's revenue from operations rose 36% on year to INR 25.78 billion. Analysts had estimated the company's consolidated revenue from operations at INR 23.11 billion.
Deepak Nitrite's total expenses grew 21% on year to INR 21.24 billion. The slower growth in expenses over revenue from operations also helped the company's robust bottom line growth. The company's cost of materials consumed, which constitutes 74% of total expenses, rose 19% on year to INR 15.81 billion. Employee benefit expenses grew 11% on year to INR 1.18 billion. The company's other expenses increased 41% on year to INR 1.68 billion. The company's power and fuel expenses rose 8% on year to INR 1.23 billion.
The company's revenue from the phenolics segment was INR 17.78 billion, up 36% on year, while its revenue from the advanced intermediates segment rose 33% on year to INR 8.04 billion.
The company said its wholly-owned subsidiary Deepak Chem Tech Ltd. will invest INR 25 billion to set up a manufacturing plant for Bisphenol A, with a capacity of up to 240 kilotonnes. Bisphenol A is a chemical compound primarily used in the manufacture of plastics.
Tuesday, Deepak Nitrite's shares closed 0.2% higher at INR 1,717.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
