MUMBAI – The Association of NSE Members of India is engaging with the Securities and Exchange Board of India, National Stock Exchange of India, and the BSE to provide the brokerage industry's feedback and "practical suggestions" on the impact of the new closing auction session in the equity cash segment of the exchanges that was launched Monday. In a statement Tuesday, the association's president Kamlesh Shroff said the implementation of the closing auction session mechanism "should be evaluated carefully to understand practical challenges and identify opportunities for refinement."

Shroff said the new mechanism is a globally accepted framework and expected participation and liquidity in it to improve progressively as brokers, institutional participants and retail investors become more familiar with the process. "While the first day's (Monday's) experience offers valuable insights, it would be prudent to evaluate the system over the next one or two (equity derivatives) expiry cycles before drawing definitive conclusions," he said.  End
