Dr Reddy's registers drug for rare head, neck cancer in South Africa

NEW DELHI – Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. has registered a programmed death-1 inhibitor in South Africa for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma to expand its oncology portfolio in the country and address an unmet need in a rare head and neck cancer. Unlike conventional chemotherapy, which attacks rapidly dividing cells, the programmed death-1 inhibitor is an immunotherapy that helps the body's immune system recognise and fight cancer cells, the company said in an exchange filing.
"By harnessing the immune system rather than directly attacking cancer cells, immunotherapy represents a significant advancement in modern oncology and has transformed the treatment landscape for several cancers, offering new hope for patients with certain advanced or difficult-to-treat cancers," the company said.
For the June quarter, Dr. Reddy's reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.44 billion on revenues of INR 81 billion. Monday, its shares closed at INR 1,180 on the National Stock Exchange, up 2.8% from Friday. End
