NEW DELHI – The government increased the windfall gains tax on exports of aviation turbine fuels and auto fuels for the fortnight starting Monday. According to a notification issued by the finance ministry, the windfall gains tax on petrol exports was increased by INR 1 per litre to INR 3.5 per litre, while the tax on diesel exports was raised by INR 8.5 per litre to INR 24 per litre. Duty on export of aviation turbine fuel has been increased by INR 7.5 per litre to INR 22 per litre.

There will be an additional road and infrastructure cess of INR 1.5 per litre on exports of diesel, which will take the eventual duty to INR 25.5 per litre. There is no change in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption, the government said.

These rates are being revised on a fortnightly basis and the last such revision was undertaken with effect from Jul. 16. The duties are based on the average international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel and ATF prevailing during the period since the last review. The government imposed excise duty on aviation turbine fuel and retail fuel exports from Mar. 27 to curb fuel outflow amid US-Iran war in West Asia.  End
