MUMBAI – Ather Energy Ltd. narrowed its net loss sharply in the June quarter, driven by an almost twofold increase in revenue from operations. The company's standalone net loss narrowed to INR 509 million in the June quarter from INR 1.78 billion a year earlier, while revenue from operations rose 89% on year to INR 12.17 billion. 

 

The company's total expenses rose 54% on year to INR 13.11 billion from INR 8.51 billion a year earlier. The company's cost of materials consumed, which accounted for 73% of total expenses, rose 90% on year to INR 9.57 billion during the quarter. Other expenses increased 9% to INR 1.54 billion, while the employee benefit expenses declined marginally to INR 1.18 billion.

 

Ather Energy's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 94.50 million as compared with an EBITDA loss of INR 1.06 billion a year earlier. The company's EBITDA margin expanded by 1650 basis points to 1% during the quarter.

 

The company sold a total of 83,173 vehicles in the June quarter, up 81% from 46,000 vehicles sold in the year-ago quarter, driven by strong demand for electric two-wheelers. Demand across Ather's portfolio continued to outpace production, supporting the sharp increase in sales. The company's consolidated market share in the electric two-wheeler segment surged to 16.8% from 14.2% a year earlier.

 

Customer enquiries for Ather rose 95% on year to 707,000, while pre-quarterly orders surged by 158% on year to 150,000 units. Ather's Factory 3.0 at Aurangabad Industrial City in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, which will have an annual production capacity of 500,000 units, is expected to start production in the December quarter.

 

"We continued to see strong demand across our portfolio, as structural tailwinds from both policy support and shifting customer sentiment translated into a massive upsurge for our products, with demand far outstripping supply," Tarun Mehta, co-founder and chief executive officer of the company, said in a release. "In the coming months, we are particularly excited about our new product on the EL platform, commencing production alongside the scale-up of our new factory at AURIC (Aurangabad Industrial City)."

 

Monday, shares of Ather Energy ended 1% higher at INR 1,272.70 on the National Stock Exchange. Ather Energy announced its June quarter results during market hours. End
