MUMBAI – Muthoot Finance Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter rose on year, but missed analysts' estimates by a wide margin. The net profit for the reporting quarter fell sequentially due to a decline in interest income and a rise in total expenses.
The gold financier's net profit for the June quarter rose nearly 25% on year to INR 25.50 billion, nearly INR 6 billion lower than analysts' estimate. Sequentially, the net profit was down 17.4%. A slight fall in total income and rise in total expenses and depreciation, amortisation and impairment cost led to the fall in net profit sequentially.
The Kerala-based gold financier's consolidated total assets under management rose 43% on year to INR 1.92 trillion at the end of June, with gold loan AUM rising 48% to INR 1.76 trillion. "Muthoot Finance has begun FY27 with a strong footing with our Consolidated Loan Assets Under Management reaching highest ever level of Rs. 1,91,532 crores. It reflects a robust growth of 43% YoY in Consolidated Loan Assets Under Management primarily driven by 43% year on year growth in Loan Assets of Muthoot Finance by Rs. 52,022 crores," Muthoot Finance said in a press release.
The company's revenue for the reporting quarter was at INR 75.89 billion, up 33.06% on year, but down 7.2% on quarter. The fall in the sequential revenue was due to decline in income from service charges and a fall in net gain on fair value changes. The service charge fell to INR 489.18 million from INR 629.58 million in the previous quarter.
The company's loan AUM was at 1.72 trillion as on Jun. 30, up 43%. At present, the non-bank lender has a total of 7,654 branch offices spread across India with an average gold loan AUM per branch at INR 324.7 million as on Jun. 30, up 40% on year. The Muthoot Finance group has opened 86 new branches in Apr-Jun.
The company has promoted K R Bijimon as chief executive officer with effect from Oct. 1. The board has recommended the appointment of Alexander George as managing director and George Alexander Muthoot as executive vice-chairman, both effective Oct. 1.
The company has also announced an additional investment of INR 320 million in Asia Asset Finance PLC under the rights issue being undertaken by Asia Asset Finance PLC. End
