MUMBAI – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. reported a 20% on-year increase in domestic wholesale sales of its sport utility vehicles in July to 60,048 units, according to an exchange filing Saturday. Overall, its automobile sales stood at 103,860 units, up 26% on year.

 

Including exports, the company despatched 60,887 sport utility vehicles in July. The wholesale sales of its commercial vehicles last month grew 23% on year to 25,204 units. Its overall automobile exports grew 47% on year to 4,070 units. 

 

Despatches of light commercial vehicles with a payload capacity under 2 tonnes grew 40% on year to 3,870 units. Mahindra & Mahindra sold 21,334 light commercial vehicles with a payload capacity exceeding 2 tonnes but under 3.5 tonnes, up 21% on year. Wholesale sales of three-wheelers, including electric variants, grew 53% on year to 14,538 units.

 

In Apr-Jul, M&M sold 234,793 cars, up 16% on year. The company has despatched 98,789 commercial vehicles in Apr-Jul, up 21% on year. In the same period, wholesale sales of three-wheelers surged 69% to 50,793 units.

 

FARM DIVISION

Mahindra & Mahindra sold 34,420 tractors in July, up 20% on year. While domestic tractor despatches grew 21% on year to 32,643 units, exports grew only 3% to 1,777 units. In Apr-Jul, the company sold 192,461 tractors, up 18% on year.

 

"Significant recovery in rainfall, improved reservoir levels, accelerated kharif sowing aided by Government support and healthy farm cashflows has led to positive rural & farmer sentiment," Veejay Nakra, the president of M&M's farm equipment business, said in a press release.

 

TRUCKS, BUSES

Mahindra & Mahindra's trucks and buses business recorded despatches of 3,009 vehicles in July, up 19% on year. Despatches in this business include sales by M&M's trucks and buses division and SML Mahindra Ltd. Earlier this week, M&M sold its trucks and buses division to its subsidiary SML Mahindra.

 

Despatches of cargo vehicles in July improved 15% on year to 1,474 units while that of passenger vehicles grew 23% to 1,535 units.

 

For the June quarter, M&M reported a net profit of INR 36.85 billion on revenues of INR 419.59 billion. Friday, its shares closed at INR 3,398.50 on the National Stock Exchange, up 3.5%.   End
