MUMBAI – National Aluminium Co. Ltd. reported a sharp rise in revenue and net profit for the June quarter, driven by higher aluminium prices. Net profit nearly doubled from a year earlier, recording its strongest growth in five quarters, while revenue posted its fastest growth over the same period. NALCO's net profit exceeded Street expectations, while revenue was in line with estimates.
The state-owned aluminium major reported a net profit of INR 20.02 billion for the June quarter, up 88% on year, and higher than expectations of INR 19.10 billion. Its revenue for the quarter rose over 39% to INR 53.02 billion. Sequentially, its bottom line grew 17%, while its top line rose nearly 6%. Analysts had expected the company to post revenues of INR 53.19 billion.
Revenues from NALCO's aluminium segment surged 55% to INR 41.89 billion for the quarter from INR 27.08 billion a year ago. However, its chemical segment's sales fell around 4% to INR 15.70 billion from INR 16.28 billion. The surge in aluminium sales was expected, as metal prices were up 43% on year during the quarter, while the war in West Asia forced smelters in the region to curtail output amid infrastructure damage. West Asia accounts for around 9% of global aluminium output.
NALCO's total expenses rose over 11% on year for the quarter to INR 27.87 billion, mainly due to a rise in raw material costs and power and fuel expenses. The company's cost of materials consumed rose 32% to INR 7.29 billion, while power and fuel costs increased 12% to INR 9.60 billion. Its other expenses rose over 13% to INR 6.59 billion.
The company will pay a final dividend of INR 1 per share for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar), with the record date on Aug. 24. Friday, the company's shares closed 0.7% higher at INR 350.05 on the National Stock Exchange. NALCO declared its June quarter results after market hours. End
