MUMBAI – The Nifty Bank index is expected to remain steady next week as market participants wait for the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy announcement on Wednesday, analysts said. "Indian equities are expected to trade with a positive bias as healthy domestic macros, and a strong Q1FY27 (Apr-Jun) earnings season continue to support investor confidence. Market participants will closely monitor RBI's monetary policy decision, India's Manufacturing and Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data, along with developments in crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia next week", Siddhartha Khemka, head of research, wealth management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. said in a note.
Analysts will also watch out for State Bank of India's June quarter earnings, scheduled Friday, they said. According to estimates from 15 brokerages, the country's largest lender, SBI, is expected to report average net interest income of INR 455.91 billion, up around 11% from a year earlier and 2.7% sequentially. Net profit is estimated at INR 194.31 billion, reflecting a modest 1.4% year-on-year increase, although it is expected to decline 1.3% sequentially owing to higher credit costs and softer non-interest income.
Friday, the Nifty Bank index settled at 57264.85 points, up 1% on week. Shares of IDFC First Bank rose 4.8% on week, leading the index, while Bank of Baroda was down 1.6% on week. The Nifty 50 index outpaced Nifty Bank index with a rise of 2.6% on week.
In its technical view, Bajaj Broking said, "Bank Nifty formed a third consecutive high wave candle with a higher high and a higher low signaling consolidation amid stock specific action around the 57,000 levels. Bank Nifty in the last 6 weeks is seen consolidating in the range of 56,500-58,700. Within the consolidation immediate hurdle is placed at 57,500 levels. A decisive move above Wednesday's high and the 57,500 mark could trigger fresh buying momentum, paving the way for an advance towards 58,000 and 58,500, which coincides with the upper band of the last 6 weeks consolidation. However, failure to surpass 57,500 levels is likely to keep the index range-bound between 56,500–57,500."
