MUMBAI – Narayana Hrudayalaya Ltd. Friday reported significant revenue growth for the June quarter, beating the Street's view. However, the company's net profit growth remained modest due to a substantial rise in its total expenses.

The hospital chain posted a consolidated net profit of INR 2.07 billion, up 5% on year. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit at INR 2.43 billion. The company's net profit margin fell to 7.7% from 13.0% in the year-ago quarter. Its consolidated revenue from operations rose 78% on year to INR 26.84 billion. The company's total expenses rose to INR 24.57 billion for the June quarter, up 89% on year. In the year-ago quarter, its expenses were INR 13 billion. The rise in expenses was driven largely by employee benefit expenses, which constitute around 30% of total expenses and more than doubled on year to INR 7.45 billion. The company's other expenses also almost doubled to INR 6.48 billion. The other expenses constitute 26% of the hospital chain's total expenses.

The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation was up 40% on year at INR 5.05 billion. Its EBITDA margin fell to 18.8% from 23.9%.

Narayana Hrudayalaya's total operational beds stood at 5,955 at the end of the June quarter. The company's average revenue per occupied bed for the June quarter from hospitals in India rose to INR 19.2 million from INR 17.6 million in the year-ago quarter.

The company's revenue from its India operations rose 17% on year to INR 13.20 billion. Its revenue from its hospital in Cayman Islands rose to $44.8 million from $42.6 million in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue from its hospital in the UK rose 54% on year to 65 million pound sterling.
