MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India Friday issued 64 consolidated Master Directions covering all supervisory instructions administered by its Department of Supervision, completing a major exercise aimed at streamlining regulations and reducing compliance costs for regulated entities.

The central bank said the consolidation brings together 628 circulars, including earlier Master Circulars and Master Directions, into 64 entity-specific directions organised across up to nine functional areas for 11 categories of regulated entities, including commercial banks, non-banking finance companies, urban and rural co-operative banks, regional rural banks, small finance banks, payment banks, asset reconstruction companies, all-India financial institutions, and credit information companies.

The RBI said it received 767 comments from stakeholders after releasing draft directions for public consultation in April. Suggestions that improved clarity and accuracy were incorporated into the final directions. Broader policy suggestions will be examined separately.

Separately, the RBI issued a circular repealing 628 supervisory circulars with immediate effect. It said the repealed circulars include those whose instructions have now been consolidated into the new Master Directions as well as obsolete or redundant instructions. However, actions already taken or initiated under the repealed directions will continue to be governed by the earlier provisions.  End
