MUMBAI – Blue Dart Express Ltd. reported a higher-than-expected financial results for the June quarter, beating the Street's view by a wide margin. A low base effect due to a higher tax charge in the year-ago quarter helped the company show a higher profit.
The logistics company reported a standalone net profit of INR 866.80 million for the June quarter, almost 85% up from INR 469.30 million in the year-ago quarter. The net profit doubled sequentially. The company reported a near 15% jump in revenue from operations to INR 16.58 billion in the June quarter from INR 14.42 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts expected the company to report INR 516 million in net profit and INR 15.59 billion in revenues.
Total expenses of the company rose 11%, comfortably below the rate of revenue growth, implying that this supported the company's substantial on-year profit growth. The company's finance costs grew the highest, by 56% on year, under expenses. The second-highest rate of growth was of depreciation and amortisation costs, at 28% on year. The rest of the expenses of the company were below the rate of revenue growth. The company received a tax credit of INR 13.1 million in the June quarter. However, in the year-ago quarter the company incurred a deferred tax charge of INR 56.6 million, setting a lower base for profit in the June quarter.
"...Despite a challenging operating environment and higher operating costs, we delivered a strong profit growth while maintaining our commitment to reliability, speed and service excellence," Balfour Manuel, managing director of the company, said. "We remain focused on improving productivity, strengthening our integrated air and ground network, accelerating digital enablement and investing in sustainable, future-ready capabilities that create long-term value for all our stakeholders."
The company Friday appointed two independent directors Rajat Kumar Jain and Avijit Mukherji for five years, effective Sept. 23. Friday, shares of the company ended at INR 5,160.30 on the National Stock Exchange, up nearly 3%. The company declared its financial result for the June quarter after market hours. End.
