India Jun-Jul rainfall 13% below normal; Friday rains 39% above normal

MUMBAI – India received 389.8 millimetres of rainfall during Jun-Jul, the first half of the southwest monsoon season, 13% below the normal 445.8 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. The rainfall on Friday was 11.9 millimetres, 39?ove the normal of 8.6 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, east and northeast India received "normal" rainfall Friday, northwest India received "deficient" rainfall, the southern peninsula region registered "excess" rainfall, and central India received "large excess" rainfall, the weather department's data showed.
East and northeast India received 17?low-normal rainfall at 9 mm, while central India recorded 21.8 mm of rainfall, 112% above the normal. South India received 40?ove-normal rains at 8.6 mm and northwest India recorded 4.7 mm of rainfall, 32?low normal.
Friday, Vidarbha in Maharashtra received the highest rainfall at 72.1 millimetres, followed by Marathwada at 63.3 millimetres, according to data from the weather bureau. IMD has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall over parts of east Rajasthan, Kerala and Karnataka till Saturday.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in three, "large deficient" in nine, "deficient" in 10, and "normal" in six. End
