MUMBAI – Aadhar Housing Finance Ltd. delivered a strong net profit growth for the June quarter compared with the year-ago quarter as interest income rose at a faster pace than interest expended. Net gains from the derecognition of financial instruments under the amortised cost category also added to the total income. Employee costs rose the most among expenses and this took the growth in total expenses closer to the increase in income.

Aadhar Housing reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.82 billion for the June quarter, up 19% on year but down 9% on quarter. This was marginally below analysts' expectation of INR 2.87 billion. The company's total revenue from operations rose 17% on year to INR 9.93 billion in the June quarter from INR 8.48 billion a year ago.

The company's total expenses were INR 6.34 billion, up 16% on year, only slightly lower than its revenue growth. This limited the growth in the net profit. The company's interest expense for the quarter was INR 3.76 billion, up 13% on year from INR 3.32 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company's employee benefit expense were INR 1.63 billion, up 27% on year.

Aadhar Housing's assets under management increased 18% on year to INR 313.64 billion as of Jun 30. The company accumulated a total net worth of INR 78.53 billion. For the June quarter, the business generated a 4% return on assets and a 14.7% return on equity. The company's gross non-performing assets on assets under management was 1.31%, down 3 basis points on year.

The company's profit after tax increased 19% on year to INR 2.82 billion from INR 2.37 billion. The company is focused on the low-income housing segment with an average ticket size of less than INR 1.5 million with assets under management of INR 314 billion.

A total of 628 branches are being operated by the company, out of which 476 are in the emerging segment and the remaining 152 are in the urban segment.

On Friday, shares of Aadhar Housing Finance closed 1.2% higher at INR 496.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its financial results for the June quarter after market hours.  End
