NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet Friday approved the Samudra Manthan Scheme with a total outlay of INR 840.84 billion for implementation up to the financial year 2030–31 (Apr-Mar). The national offshore exploration scheme under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas will help to strengthen India's energy security and accelerate domestic exploration and production, the government said in a release.

The scheme will help with gathering, processing, and interpretation of high-quality seismic data, accelerated deep-water and ultra-deep-water exploratory drilling, scientific drilling in frontier basins, and establishment of an integrated oil and gas manufacturing and services zone, according to the release.

The plan is expected to prompt reserve accretion of over 600 million tonnes of oil equivalent. "The scheme is also expected to stimulate significant investments across the exploration and production value chain, creating long-term opportunities for industry, innovation and economic growth," as per the release.  End
