NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet Friday approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme from 2026–27 (Apr-Mar) to FY31, with a total financial outlay of INR 3.15 trillion.

Launched in February 2019, PM-KISAN provides eligible farmers with an annual income support of INR 6,000, transferred directly to their bank accounts in three equal instalments. Women farmers have received more than INR 1.06 trillion under PM-KISAN, with nearly one in four beneficiaries being women, a government release said.

So far, more than INR 4.47 trillion has been transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts through 23 instalments under the scheme, the release said. Under the 23rd instalment, around 95 million farmers received over INR 189.84 million.

"The assistance provided under PM-KISAN has enabled farmers to make timely investments in seeds, fertilisers, irrigation, agricultural machinery and other agricultural requirements," the release said. "This has enhanced farmers' productive capacity, reduced their dependence on informal credit and strengthened the financial stability of rural households," the release said.  End
