NEW DELHI – Aditya Birla Capital Ltd. reported a sharp rise in net profit for the June quarter, driven by strong growth in assets under management. The non-banking finance company also posted a significant increase in total income during the period.

 

For the June quarter, the company reported a net profit of INR 11.75 billion, up over 40% on year. This was the company's strongest annual growth in seven quarters. Sequentially, the net profit rose over 16%. The earnings also beat Street estimates of INR 8.74 billion.

 

The company detailed its June quarter results during market hours. At 1445 IST, its shares were at INR 402.55 on National Stock Exchange, up over 2% from Thursday. The shares eventually closed at INR 404.30, up 2.6%.

 

Aditya Birla Capital's total assets under management grew 36% on year to INR 7.53 trillion as of Jun. 30. The company's consolidated revenue was INR 121.80 billion, up over 28% on year. However, it fell nearly 10% sequentially. A significant yearly and sequential decline in other income weighed on total income. Other income fell nearly 206% on year to INR 75 million and over 54% on quarter. The total income rose to INR 121.87 billion, up nearly 28% on year. It fell nearly 10% on quarter.

 

Assets under management for the lending business rose 28% on year to INR 1.67 trillion as of the end of June, from INR 1.60 trillion at the end of March. The net interest income for the lending business grew 28% on year and 9% on quarter to INR 23.77 billion. Loan disbursements rose over 34% on year to INR 212.01 billion as on Jun. 30. At the end of the June quarter, the company's overall lending portfolio was at INR 2.19 trillion, up 32% on year. 

 

The average quarterly assets under management of Aditya Birla Capital's asset management business stood at INR 4.27 trillion as of Jun. 30. The assets under management of this segment were up 6% year-on-year. 

 

In the insurance segment, the first-year individual premiums in the life insurance business were at INR 9.52 billion, up 20% on year. Gross written premiums in the health insurance business were INR 21.96 billion, up 50% on year. The net value-of-new-business margin stood at 15.1% as of Jun. 30, up 756 basis points from a year ago. The 13th-month persistency ratio was 83% and the 61st-month persistency ratio was 59%.

 

The company also announced the appointment of Subhash Subramaniam as chief technology officer, effective Monday.  End
