MUMBAI – Kajaria Ceramics Ltd. Friday reported a sharp on-year jump in its net profit and revenues for the June quarter, mainly driven by price hikes in Apr-Jun. This comes despite only a 6% on-year growth in volumes because of a weak April affected by the disruptions caused by the war in West Asia.

 

The tile-maker posted a consolidated net profit of INR 1.69 billion for the June quarter, up 55% on year from INR 1.09 billion. Sequentially, net profit grew 9%. The net profit was above the Street estimate of INR 1.45 billion. The company's revenue from operations rose 20% on year to INR 13.28 billion for the June quarter from INR 11.03 billion. Sequentially, the top line declined 3%. Analysts had estimated revenues of INR 12.96 billion.

 

Kajaria Ceramics' total expenses rose nearly 16% to INR 11.15 billion in the quarter under review. The company's cost of material consumed fell marginally to INR 2.53 billion, while purchases of stock-in-trade rose 19% to INR 2.62 billion. The company reported power and fuel expenses of INR 2.70 billion, up 21% on year.

 

The tile maker said it will invest INR 1.7 billion to expand capacity at its plant in Gailpur, Rajasthan. It aims to add a capacity of 11 million square metre tiles per annum to the existing capacity of 35.95 million square metre tiles per annum. 

 

The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation increased 40% on year to INR 2.60 billion for the June quarter from INR 1.84 billion. The EBITDA margin expanded 288 basis points to 19.60% from 16.72% for the year-ago quarter.

 

 

The company's revenues from the tiles segment increased 18% on year to INR 11.6 billion. Revenues from others segment, including adhesive, bathware, and sanitaryware, rose 45% to INR 1.68 billion. Kajaria Ceramics produced 20.89 million square metre tiles in the June quarter, down 3% on year.

 

Friday, shares of Kajaria Ceramics ended at INR 1,198.30 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up marginally from Thursday. The results were announced during market hours.  End
