Slight dip in expenses helps LIC Housing Fin Q1 PAT growth

MUMBAI – LIC Housing Finance Ltd. reported an on-year growth in net profit for the June quarter thanks to a slight fall in total expenses. The lender's revenue from operations as well as total income declined on year and on quarter, limiting the growth in the bottom line.
LIC Housing Finance's net profit grew over 9% on year, but fell nearly 1% on quarter to INR 14.88 billion. Analysts had estimated the home loan company's net profit for the reporting quarter at INR 14.93 billion.
Total expenses fell over 5% on year to INR 51.77 billion, aided by the reversal of the impairment on financial instruments worth INR 1.64 billion. An on-year fall in finance costs also supported profitability. The metric fell nearly 2% on year to INR 49.48 billion. However, finance costs rose over 3% on a sequential basis.
The lender's revenue from operations declined 1.5% on year to INR 70.62 billion. The total income for the reporting quarter was down 1.45% at INR 70.66 billion.
The lender's gross non-performing assets stage III ratio improved to 2.14% as on Jun. 30 from 2.62% a year ago. The net non-performing assets stage III ratio for the reporting quarter was 1.12% as on Jun. 30, down from 1.30% a year ago.
LIC Housing's provision coverage ratio declined to 48.12% for the June quarter from 50.92% in the year-ago period. The liquidity coverage ratio for the reporting quarter stood at 219.86%, up from 177.43% in the year-ago period.
On Thursday, shares of LIC Housing Finance closed over 2% lower at INR 540.90 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its financial results for the June quarter after market hours. End
