MUMBAI – Global Health Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter beat estimates, even as higher expenses weighed on its growth. The company's consolidated net profit for the quarter under review was INR 1.59 billion, unchanged on year. The estimated bottom line was INR 1.54 billion. Sequentially, net profit was up 10%.

 

The company's revenue from operations for the June quarter rose 27% on year to INR 13.04 billion from INR 10.31 billion. The estimate was INR 11.98 billion. Sequentially, the top line rose 13%.

 

Global Health's total expenses rose 29% on year to INR 11.13 billion in the June quarter. Among the major costs, its employee benefits expenses rose 25% to INR 3.19 billion. The depreciation and amortisation expenses were up 53% to INR 690 million. The company's cost of materials consumed rose 21% to INR 2.57 billion and the purchase of stock-in-trade rose 28% to INR 407 million. Finance costs nearly doubled to INR 266 million. The company's changes in inventories of stock-in-trade was a negative INR 35.5 million, compared to a negative INR 58.1 million in the year-ago quarter.

 

The company paid INR 560 million in taxes for the June quarter, up 14% on year.

 

Global Health's standalone net profit for the June quarter rose 10% on year to INR 1.37 billion from INR 1.52 billion. Its revenue from operations was up 22% on year at INR 10.79 billion from INR 8.82 billion. Sequentially, the net profit and revenues were up 11% and 12%, respectively.

 

The company has proposed a capacity addition with the construction of a 650-bed hospital, instead of a 400-bed one announced earlier, in the next 3-4 years. The hospital will be built near Guwahati, Assam, to offer services in the Northeast. The estimated cost of the project is INR 9.7 billion which will be funded from a mix of internal accruals and debt. The hospital aims to strengthen healthcare infrastructure for people across Assam and neighbouring states, the company said. Currently, Medanta hospitals operated by the company are functioning in Gurugram in Haryana, Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Ranchi in Jharkhand, Lucknow and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Patna in Bihar.

 

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE

Global Health's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter rose 24% on year to INR 3.15 billion. The company's EBITDA margin contracted 51 basis points on year to 23.8%. The company's net profit margin contracted to 11.9% from 15.1% in the year-ago quarter. Its EBITDA, excluding the Noida hospital, was INR 3.20 billion, with an improved margin of 25.8%. The Noida hospital's EBITDA loss narrowed to INR 49 million in the June quarter from the loss of INR 236 million reported in the March quarter.

 

The company's occupied bed days increased 21% on year to 173,064 days in the June quarter. The average revenue per occupied bed was INR 70,244, up 5.5% on year. The average revenue per patient was INR 201,891, up from INR 201,795 in the year-ago quarter. The patient footfalls at the company's hospitals increased with a 28% rise in in-patients and 35% rise in outpatients. Revenues from international patients rose 23% on year to INR 782 million. Revenues from the outpatient department pharmacy surged 51% to INR 609 million. The heart specialty segment made up 21% of total revenues, followed by other specialties at 20% and cancer specialty at 14%.

 

Global Health expects to increase its bed capacity by 13% to 4,155 beds in the current financial year, of which 72 have already been added in Lucknow and Noida in the June quarter. The company estimates 71% year-on-year increase in beds in the near future. The land acquired by the company in Mumbai in 2024 is still awaiting environmental clearance as well as a go-ahead from the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority., the company said.

 

Shares of Global Health closed at INR 1,416.4 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down over 1% from Wednesday. The earnings were announced after market hours.  End
