MUMBAI – The warships and submarines manufacturer Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. reported a sharp rise in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter led by a major reduction in provisions and a lower current tax expense. The company reported an on-year growth in its net profit for the fourth consecutive quarter. 

 

The company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 5.49 billion for the June quarter. The profit surged 22% on year but declined 19% sequentially. The consolidated revenue from operations of the company grew 12% on year to INR 29.43 billion but declined more than 23% sequentially.

 

While the cost of materials consumed was the major expense for Mazagon Dock, it grew only 6% on year to INR 9.49 billion. Whereas, the second major expense for the company was the purchase of stock-in-trade, which rose nearly three-fold on year to INR 5.97 billion. The company's total expenses were INR 25.69 billion for the June quarter, up 8% on year and down 23% sequentially.

 

The shipbuilder's sub-contract expenses for the June quarter almost doubled to INR 3.69 billion. Mazagon Dock's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 7.60 billion, up 22% from INR 6.25 billion in the year-ago quarter.

 

The company's total order book as of Jun. 30 was INR 182.18 billion, down 11% from INR 205.35 at the end of the March quarter. Thursday, shares of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders closed slightly higher at INR 2,319.10 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The company detailed its June quarter earnings after market hours.  End
