MUMBAI – Indegene Ltd.'s net profit for June quarter remained flat on year as the increase in the company's total expenses outpaced the growth in its total income. The company's revenue increased substantially as the number of active clients increased by 14 sequentially to 105. The number of customers in $10 million plus range increased to 12 from 10 in the March quarter.

 

The life sciences commercialsation company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 1.16 billion, unchanged from the year-ago quarter. Sequentially, the net profit rose 46% from INR 797 milion in the March quarter. This was above the Street estimate of INR 1.11 billion. The company reported consolidated revenue from operations of INR 10.63 billion in the June quarter, up 40% from INR 7.60 billion in the year-ago quarter. Sequentially, revenue increased 6% from INR 10.03 billion in the March quarter. The revenue was in line with the Street estimate of INR 10.59 billion. 

 

The company's total income increased 39% on year to INR 10.92 billion in the reporting quarter. Indegene's total expenses for the quarter rose 49% on year to INR 9.40 billion. The company's employee benefit expenses, which constitute 70% of the total expenses, rose 37% on year to INR 6.59 billion. Other expenses increased 85% on year to INR 2.29 billion, while depreciation and amortisation cost more than doubled to INR 441 million.

 

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation rose 17% on year to INR 1.79 billion, with EBITDA margin of 16.9%. The company's revenue per employee increased to $77,100 in the June quarter. 

 

"We started FY27 (Apr-Mar) strongly, delivering sequential USD revenue growth of 2.5% - our strongest sequential growth in a first quarter in four years - and expanding our active client base to more than 100", Manish Gupta, chairman and chief executive officer of the company, said. 

 

"Profitability improved in step with growth, with both EBITDA and PAT margins expanding sequentially," said Suhas Prabhu, chief financial officer of the company. "As these investments mature and ongoing engagements scale, we expect operating leverage to improve further and profitability to strengthen in the second half of the year."

 

Indegene detailed its June quarter earnings after the equity market closed. Thursday, shares of Indegene closed nearly 2% lower at INR 514.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange.  End
