MUMBAI – Vardhman Textiles Ltd. reported a sharp year-on-year increase in its net profit and revenue for the June quarter. The net profit increased as the growth in revenue outpaced the increase in total expenses.
The textile manufacturer reported a consolidated net profit of INR 3.10 billion, up 50% from INR 2.07 billion in the year-ago quarter. The net profit was slightly below the Street's estimate of INR 3.44 billion. The company's consolidated revenue from operations rose 13% on year to INR 27.03 billion from INR 23.86 billion. The revenue from operations was also lower than the estimate of INR 28.19 billion.
The company reported total expenses of INR 23.79 billion, up nearly 9%. The company's cost of material consumed rose 5% to INR 14.50 billion, other expenses increased 11% to INR 5.86 billion, and employee benefit expenses increased marginally to INR 2.27 billion.
In terms of segments, the company's revenue from the textiles business rose 13% on year to INR 26.48 billion, and the acrylic fibre business grew 13% to INR 782.5 million. During the June quarter, Vardhman Textiles issued 194,000 equity shares with a face value of INR 2 per share under the employee stock option scheme.
On a standalone basis, the company reported net profit of INR 2.85 billion on revenues of INR 26.48 billion. After the results were declared, Vardhman Textiles' shares fell over 4% to a low of INR 608. At 1402 IST, its shares traded at INR 608.05 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, over 3% lower from Wednesday. End
