MUMBAI – Vedanta Power Ltd. reported a consolidated net loss of INR 4.23 billion for the June quarter, weighed down by an exceptional cost. The company had reported a net profit of INR 880 million in the year-ago quarter. The power producer had an exceptional cost of INR 4.87 billion in the quarter on account of a penalty and late payment charges for wrongful declaration of its capacity. The company reported a loss of INR 1.21 billion even before exceptional items and tax.
The company's revenue from operations rose 31% on year to INR 26.07 billion for the June quarter from INR 19.86 billion. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation fell over 30% on year to INR 2.91 billion, driven largely by the accident at a boiler at the Sakti plant. Vedanta Power reported realisations of INR 5 per kilowatt-hour, down from INR 5.2 in the year-ago quarter. Its power cost increased to INR 4.4 per kilowatt-hour in the June quarter from INR 4.1 in the year-ago quarter. The power company reported a net debt of INR 77.04 billion at the end of the June quarter, marginally up from INR 76.21 billion in the trailing quarter. "Strong revenue and power sales, backed by operational excellence, fuel security, improved credit ratings, and sustainability initiatives, demonstrate the resilience of our business and future readiness," Rajinder Singh Ahuja, chief executive officer, said.
