MUMBAI – TBO Tek Ltd. posted strong growth in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter, driven by a sharp rise in income in its hotels and packages business. The company delivered a robust performance despite disruption caused by the war in West Asia.

The company's net profit for the June quarter grew 32% on year to INR 833.58 million, beating analysts' expectation of INR 780.80 million. Sequentially, the net profit is up 39%. The company's net profit was INR 629.68 million in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue from operations for the quarter rose 81% on year to INR 9.26 billion, beating the Street's estimate of INR 8.60 billion. The company's revenue from operations was INR 5.11 billion in the year-ago quarter.

The company's organic gross transaction value for the June quarter grew 37% on year to INR 9.91 billion. The company's total expenses for the quarter rose 83% on year to INR 8.35 billion from INR 4.56 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company's other expenses rose 50% on year to INR 2.29 billion in the June quarter.

Revenue from the hotels and packages segment, which is the largest contributor to TBO Tek revenues, was up 89% on year at INR 7.99 billion and the profit from this segment was up 67% on year at INR 4.70 billion. Revenues from the air ticketing segment rose 3% on year to INR 812.26 million. The revenue from other segments was INR 448.18 million and its profit was INR 368 million, both up four-fold from the year-ago quarter.

The operating performance of the company also improved significantly. The company's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation rose 84% on year to INR 1.43 billion from INR 779 million in the year-ago quarter. TBO Tek's EBITDA margin rose 26 basis points to 15.50% for the June quarter, up from 15.24% it had reported a year ago. The organic hotels and ancillary business, including business from Classic Vacations, grew 49.8% on year in the June quarter. The business grew only 27% excluding the acquired business Classic Vacations.

West Asia is among the company's higher margin markets and its lower saliency during the quarter affected the blended gross profit margin of the hotels and ancillaries business, the company said. Wednesday, shares of TBO Tek closed marginally up at INR 1,522.6 on the National Stock Exchange, before the company announced its June quarter earnings.  End
