MUMBAI – V-Guard Industries Ltd. reported a sharp jump in its net profit for the June quarter as the increase in income outpaced the increase in expenses, despite an increase in the tax paid in the quarter.
The company's net profit for the June quarter grew 93% on year to INR 1.08 billion, beating analysts' expectation of INR 1.00 billion. Sequentially, the net profit is up 13%. The company's net profit was INR 557.10 million in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue from operations for the quarter rose 23% on year to INR 17.37 billion, beating the Street's estimate of INR 16.88 billion. Sequentially, revenue from operations was up 3%. The company's revenue from operations was INR 14.06 billion in the year-ago quarter.
The company's total expenses for the quarter rose 20% on year to INR 16.04 billion from INR 13.36 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company reported an increase in inventories of finished goods, work in progress, and stock-in-trade at INR 1.06 billion from a decrease of INR 286 million in the year-ago quarter. The company's cost of materials consumed rose 79% on year to INR 5.75 billion in the June quarter. The company's purchase of stock-in-trade rose 17% on year to INR 7.0 billion. The company's other expenses rose 11% on year to INR 2.59 billion in the June quarter.
The company's tax rose 81% on year to INR 359 million from INR 199 million in the year-ago quarter. Sequentially, the company's tax paid rose 11%.
Shares of V-Guard Industries rose sharply to an intra-day high of INR 315 on the National Stock Exchange after the earnings were announced. The stock then gave up some gains and was at INR 301.35 at 1431 IST, up 3% from Tuesday.
V-Guard's consolidated net profit for the June quarter grew 76% to INR 1.3 billion from INR 738.5 million in the year-ago quarter. The company's consolidated net revenue for the June quarter rose 24% to INR 18.10 billion from INR 14.66 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company's consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation excluding other income rose 55% to INR 1.90 billion. The company's consolidated EBITDA margin rose to 10.5% in the June quarter from 8.4% in the year-ago quarter.
V-Guard's revenue from the electronics segment was INR 6.58 billion, contributing 36% to the company's consolidated revenue, and the revenue from electricals segment was INR 6.70 billion, which was 37% of the consolidated revenue. The company's revenue from the consumer durables segment was INR 4.17 billion. V-Guard Industries said Managing Director Mithun K Chittilappilly will become the chairperson from Sept. 27. Shares of V-Guard closed at INR 301.95 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up over 3% from Tuesday. End
