MUMBAI – The Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs of Kenya Tuesday directed Tata Chemicals Ltd.'s Kenyan subsidiary Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd. to suspend its mining operations due to violations of compliance related to royalty, export, and community development agreements, among others. The subsidiary has also been directed to suspend exports of soda ash, as per an exchange filing by Tata Chemicals Wednesday. The suspension of mining operations of Tata Chemicals Magadi will be until a compliance review and submission of evidence of compliance with all statutory documentation.
The exact impact is "currently unquantified" and will be determined by the actual days of suspension of mining operations and exports, the parent company said.
Tata Chemicals reported a consolidated net loss of INR 170 million for the June quarter on revenue of INR 42.55 billion. At 1505 IST, shares of the company traded 0.9% higher at INR 680.25 on the National Stock Exchange. End
