MUMBAI – The strength and distribution of rainfall in Delhi is expected to rise Thursday and Friday, and continue into the first week of August, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. Fairly widespread moderate rainfall with instances of heavy showers are likely between Aug. 3 and Aug. 8, and persistent cloud cover is also likely to prevail during this period, the weather agency said. As such, day temperatures in the city are expected to remain at 30–35 degrees Celsius.

The monsoon trough is the main trigger for rainfall in Delhi during this time of the year, the weather agency said. The east-west oriented trough is currently in proximity to Delhi. It is likely to remain near the city for the next week or more, with minor north-south oscillations. The deep depression over the eastern parts of the country will move west-northwestward across the central parts of India. As the deep depression draws closer to Delhi, the zone of convergence associated with the trough will strengthen the monsoon trough. 

The combination of these weather systems, along with the presence of the western disturbance and an upper air system moving across the north Indian mountains, will work in tandem to accentuate weather activity over Delhi. July is likely to end with Delhi recording a normal level of rainfall for the month, the weather agency said.  End
