MUMBAI – Birlasoft Ltd. Tuesday reported a sequential fall in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter but still met the Street's view. The company's bottom line was dragged down by a sharp jump in tax expenses. Furthermore, the technology player's total expenses grew at a faster pace than its total income. For the June quarter, the company's consolidated revenues met analyst estimates and grew marginally on quarter.

 

For Apr-Jun, the C.K. Birla group-owned technology company's consolidated net profit fell over 8% on quarter to INR 1.61 billion. The bottom line was in line with the Street's view of INR 1.58 billion. Analysts had anticipated a fall in the net profit due to the high base seen in the March quarter. The company's consolidated revenues were INR 13.79 billion, up over 2% on quarter.

 

The company's tax expenses for the June quarter surged 45% sequentially to INR 671.77 million, dragging the net profit lower. The company's profit before tax for the June quarter was INR 2.28 billion, up nearly 3% sequentailly. Its total expenses rose over 5% sequentially to INR 11.80 billion while its total income grew slightly slower at 4.7% to INR 14.08 billion.

 

The company's consolidated revenue in dollar terms fell to $145.20 million, up 0.3% on quarter but down 3% on year in constant currency. The company's banking, financial services, and insurance segment recorded 8% sequential growth to INR 3.51 billion while its manufacturing segment fell 1.7% to INR 5.18 billion. The lifesciences vertical grew nearly 4% to INR 2.7 billion and the energy segment rose nearly 1% to INR 2.40 billion.

 

The company's earnings before interest and taxes margin contracted to 14.7% in the June quarter from 17% in the trailing quarter. The value of total contracts secured by the company in the June quarter fell nearly 19% to $169 million from $208 million a quarter ago. As on Jun. 30, the company's headcount was 11,057, down from 11,363 at the end of March. It's 12-month attrition rate in the June quarter was 11.7%, down from 13% a quarter ago.

 

Tuesday, shares of Birlasoft closed at INR 299.90, up over 2% from Monday. The company declared its June quarter results after market hours.  End
