MUMBAI – Under the influence of a deep depression lying over north interior Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, isolated 'extremely heavy' rainfall is forecast over Odisha on Tuesday and Chhattisgarh till Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. The weather department has also forecast extremely heavy rainfall over east Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, Vidarbha from Wednesday to Thursday, and the Gujarat region on Friday. IMD has issued a red alert for the above regions. 

 

"It (deep depression) is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha, south Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours," IMD said. 

 

IMD has forecast 'very heavy' rainfall in central India over east Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday and Thursday, and over west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and Friday. In east India, 'very heavy' rainfall is expected over Jharkhand on Tuesday and Odisha on Wednesday. 

 

In northwest India, 'very heavy' rainfall is forecast over Jammu & Kashmir and nearby areas on Thursday and Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand till Thursday. Similar rain conditions are also likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab till Thursday, and over east Rajasthan from Thursday to Saturday. 

 

In northeast India, 'very heavy' rainfall is expected over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Wednesday, and later on Sunday and Monday. Arunachal Pradesh is also forecast to receive very heavy rains on Saturday, IMD said. 

 

In west India, 'very heavy' rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa on Friday, central Maharashtra from Thursday to Friday, and the Gujarat Region on Thursday and later during the weekend. In south India, 'very heavy' rainfall is expected over south interior Karnataka on Tuesday and later on Thursday and Friday. End
