Govt extends anti-dumping duty on low ash met coke imports for 5 years

NEW DELHI – The government has extended the anti-dumping duty on the import of low ash metallurgical coke from Australia, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, and Russia for five years, the finance ministry said in a gazette notification late Monday. Metallurgical coke is a high-carbon pure fuel primarily used in steel production, foundry casting, and chemical manufacturing.
The anti-dumping duty will be in the range of $42.95-$128.83 per tonne on the import of low ash metallurgical coke. "The anti-dumping duty imposed under this notification shall be effective for a period of five years from the date of imposition of the provisional anti-dumping duty, unless revoked, amended or superseded earlier, and shall be payable in Indian currency," the finance ministry said.
The government had on Jan. 1 imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty of $60.87–$130.66 per tonne on the import of low ash metallurgical coke for six months.
The anti-dumping duty follows the recommendation of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies in November. The trade investigation arm of the commerce ministry had recommended the duty after it found low ash metallurgical coke was exported to India at dumped prices from Australia, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, and Russia. It had also found that the imports had led to "material injury" to the domestic industry. End
