NEW DELHI – Faridabad in Haryana, Pimpri-Chinchwad in Maharashtra, and Greater Hyderabad in Telangana were among the top five cities with a population of over one million by gross value added per establishment, according to an Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises 2025. The other two such cities in the lists were Delhi and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, as per the survey conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said.

Faridabad topped the list by contributing INR 775,000 by gross value added per establishment, followed by Pimpri-Chinchwad, which added INR 763,000, and Greater Hyderabad added INR 714,000. Delhi contributed INR 620,000, while Srinagar added INR 614,000 by gross value added per establishment, the survey finding showed.

"According to MoSPI's ASUSE 2025 analysis, India's million-plus cities are powering economic growth through higher productivity, stronger value creation, and expanding employment," the statistics ministry said in a social media post on X Monday. "The findings highlight the vital contribution of urban centres in driving the nation's development and strengthening India's economy."

Among the top five million-plus cities by gross value added per worker was Pimpri-Chinchwad, Greater Hyderabad, and Delhi, which added INR 290,000, INR 276,000, and INR 265,000, respectively. The remaining two--Faridabad and Kalyan-Dombivli in Maharashtra--contributed INR 260,000 and INR 257,000, respectively, of gross value added per worker, the survey found.

Calling these million-plus cities India's productivity champions, the statistics minister said higher productivity fuels higher valye and a strong urban economy. The ministry conducts the Annual Survey of Incorporated Service Sector Enterprises, covering the India's incorporated services sector of the economy. The survey results are published quarterly and annual.

The survey also found that Greater Hyderabad with 1.57 million workers, Delhi with 1.39 million workforce, and West Bengal's Kolkata with 1.36 million workers were the top three cities by number of workers across the country. Surat and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, Greater Mumbai, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh were the other top million-plus cities by number of workers across the country, according to the survey.  End
