HYDERABAD – Tata Power Co. Ltd. reported a consolidated net profit of INR 11.76 billion for the June quarter, up nearly 11% on year and revenue from operations rose 5.6% on year to INR 190.51 billion. The company's top line and bottom line were both above the Street estimates. Analysts had estimated Tata Power's June quarter net profit at INR 11.48 billion on revenue of INR 185 billion.

Growth in its thermal and renewable energy business helped the company beat the estimates for the quarter and its margins were stable. Analysts estimated the resumption of Tata Power's Mundra supercritical plant may boost the earnings of the company significantly.

Tata Power said higher sales were reported across its distribution business, traditional power generation, rooftop, and solar manufacturing, but were partly offset by Mudra project operation. Tata Power said except Mudra Project, all three segments contributed to the overall growth, while profitability was impacted due to lower income from the Tata Projects Ltd. and higher corporate costs.

Tata Power's thermal and hydro power segment revenue for the quarter rose INR 51.93 billion for the quarter from INR 48.4 billion a year ago. The transmission segment revenue increased to INR 114.41 billion from INR 100.78 billion. In the renewable business, the company reported a revenue of INR 37.71 billion against a revenue of INR 36.26 billion a year ago.

Tata Power earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter were INR 42.49 billion against INR 39.30 billion a year ago, while its EBITDA margin was 15%, flat on year.

The company's total expenses rose 8.4% on year to INR 177 billion. Other expenses rose over 7% on year to INR 17.3 billion. The fuel costs for the quarter were up nearly 9% on year to INR 38.7 billion due to an increase in coal prices. The company's cost of power purchased for the quarter increased to INR 61.6 billion, up 17% on year.

Tata Power's net debt for the quarter increased to INR 612.38 billion from INR 561.22 a quarter ago due to higher capital expenditure and working capital needs during the quarter. The company spent INR 53.75 billion on capital expenditure, which is a record quarterly spending for the company.

Tata Power said the company was on track to add 2.5 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in 2026-27 (Apr-Mar). The company currently has 12 gigawatt renewable energy generation capacity, while it has an aim to reach 30 gigawatt capacity in this segment by FY30.

On Monday, Tata Power's shares ended at INR 377.35 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.8% from their previous close.  End
