Dr Reddy's says Thailand drug regulator approves gonorrhoea drug zoliflodacin

NEW DELHI – Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. on Monday said Thailand's Food and Drug Administration has approved Nuzolvence (zoliflodacin), a first-in-class oral antibiotic for the treatment of uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea, making Thailand the second country after the US to clear the drug. The approval comes around six months after the US Food and Drug Administration authorised the drug and follows a priority review submission led by Dr. Reddy's with support from the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership.
"Nuzolvence is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhoea due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae in adults and paediatric patients 12 years of age and older, weighing at least 35 kg. Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents," the company said in the press release.
The company, along with the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership and its subsidiary Aurigene Pharmaceutical Services Ltd., will work with healthcare stakeholders in Thailand to commercialise the drug and ensure its supply.
Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership said it is also pursuing market authorisation for zoliflodacin in South Africa to Dr. Reddy's. "GARDP has the right to register and commercialize zoliflodacin in more than three-quarters of the world's countries, including all low-income countries, most middle-income countries, and several high-income countries," the company said in the press release.
For the June quarter, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.44 billion on revenues of INR 81 billion. At 1507 IST, shares of the company were at INR 1,152.50 on the National Stock Exchange, marginally higher. End
