NEW DELHI – The credit guarantee issued under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme 5.0 touched almost INR 1.91 trillion as of Tuesday, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written response to the Lok Sabha Monday. Out of the total coverage, majority--over 22%--of the total guaranteed amount belongs to the traders, followed by the other industries, the minister said. The total guaranteed amount issued to traders totalled to INR 424.36 billion.
The guarantee issued to other industries was INR 256.44 billion. Other top beneficiaries of the scheme included food processing, basic metals and textile industries. The guarantee to these industries were to the tune of INR 229.03 billion, INR 147.67 billion, and 134.76 billion, respectively.
The minister also gave state-wise data and said that most of the total guaranteed amount issued belongs to Maharashtra at INR 255.34 billion, followed by Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Total guaranteed amount issued to Gujarat under the scheme was INR 168.92 billion and INR 158.93 billion to Uttar Pradesh.
The minister said that no impact assessment of the scheme has been conducted so far considering it was launched just in May. In May, the Union Cabinet approved INR 181 billion for the scheme to extend credit support to Indian businesses amid uncertainties related to the war in West Asia. The scheme will help businesses, especially MSMEs and the airline sector, maintain their operations, protect jobs, and sustain supply chains.
The scheme will apply to all loans sanctioned till the end of 2026–27 (Apr-Mar) to help borrowers tide over any short-term liquidity mismatches in view of the war in West Asia. Under the scheme, additional credit of up to 20% of peak working capital utilised during Jan-Mar, up to a limit of INR 1 billion, is provided as support. For airlines, credit of up to 100% of working capital is provided, subject to a cap of INR 15 billion per borrower. End
