MUMBAI – India recorded 7.5 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, 20?low the normal of 9.4 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 25, the country received 331.5 mm of rain, 15?low the normal of 389.7 millimetres for the period.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, east and northeast India and south peninsular India registered "large deficient" rains while central India got "excess" rains and northwest India received "normal" rains.

 

The east and northeast received 64?low-normal rains at 4.5 millimetres. South peninsular India recorded 2.2 millimetres of rainfall, 70?low normal. Central India registered 22?ove-normal rains at 13.3 millimetres and northwest India recorded 6.2 millimetres of rainfall, 17?low normal.

 

The Gujarat region received the highest rainfall at 58.9 millimetres, followed by Saurashtra and Kutch at 39.1 millimetres, according to data from the weather department. The department has issued a red alert for both subdivisions as extremely heavy rainfall has been forecast Saturday.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 18, "deficient" in nine, "large excess" in four, "excess" in one, and "normal" in four, according to the data. End
