MUMBAI – Zen Technologies Ltd. reported lower-than-expected net profit for the June quarter, missing the Street's estimate by 34-37%. The revenues of the defence equipment manufacturer were, however, in line with the Street's estimates.
Zen Technologies reported a net profit of INR 318 million, nearly 40% lower than the net profit of INR 530 million it had reported in the year-ago quarter. The company's profit before tax for the June quarter was INR 489 million, down 36% from the year-ago quarter. The company gained INR 21.2 million from deferred tax. It incurred two exceptional losses in the quarter.
The company reported a loss of INR 3.01 million under the head of share of loss of associates and joint venture, and a loss of INR 33.71 million under exceptional items. These two losses dragged the company's bottom line down. According to the company, the exceptional item was recorded after inventory was damaged in a fire that took place in a subsidiary business of the company. While the inventory was insured, the insurance survey is pending, the company said.
The company reported revenue from operation of INR 1.41 billion for the June quarter, down over 10% from the year-ago quarter. Its total income was INR 1.60 billion, also down over 10% from the year-ago period. The company's total expenses amounted to INR 1.11 billion, up more than 8% from the year-ago quarter. This was despite the company gaining INR 584 million from changes in inventories of finished goods, work-in-progress and stock-in-trade. This weighed on the company's bottom line.
The board of Zen Technologies appointed Jasthi Krishna Kishore as non-executive independent director of the company. It also reappointed Shilpa Choudhari as whole-time director.
The company announced its financial results for the June quarter Saturday. Friday, its shares had ended at INR 1,768.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.78% from Thursday. End
