MUMBAI – Container Corp. of India Ltd. Friday reported a sharp rise in net profit for the June quarter owing to reduced employee benefit costs and lower tax expenses on year. The company's net profit and revenue missed analyst estimates marginally. The company's net profit rose after two consecutive quarters of a decline. The year-on-year rise in net profit was the highest in 10 quarters.
Container Corp. reported a net profit of INR 2.78 billion for the June quarter, up nearly 8% on year and sequentially. Analysts had expected the company to report a bottom line of INR 2.85 billion.
The company's net revenue from operations was reported at INR 21.54 billion, up slightly from the year-ago quarter. The revenue declined 5% sequentially. Analysts saw the company's top line at INR 22.14 billion.
Container Corp.'s total expenses declined marginally on year but more than 6% sequentially to INR 18.83 billion. The company saw an expense of INR 18.96 billion in the year-ago quarter.
The company's largest expense for the June quarter was for rail freight, largely unchanged on year at INR 12.02 billion. The rail freight expense fell more than 6% sequentially.
The company's export-import segment revenues grew 2% on year to INR 14.34 billion for the June quarter while the domestic segment revenue declined 4% from the year-ago quarter to INR 7.21 billion.
Container Corp. declared an interim dividend of INR 1.60 per share with the record date set to Aug. 4. It has appointed Ajit Kumar Panda as chairman and managing director till his superannuation on Aug. 31, 2028. Panda will assume charge on or after Aug. 1.
Friday, shares of Container Corp. ended at INR 477.55 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down slightly from Thursday. The company detailed its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
