India rainfall 32% above normal on Fri, season's deficit at 16%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 12.4 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, 32% above the normal of 9.4 mm, according to the data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 24, the country received 319.2 mm of rain, 16% below the normal of 380.3 mm for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two regions--east and northeast India and south India--registered "deficient" rains on Friday, while central India and northwest India received "large excess" rains.
The east and northeast received 32% below-normal rains at 8.8 mm of rainfall on Friday, while central India recorded 19.6 mm of rainfall, 80% above the normal. South India registered 52% below-normal rains at 3.7 mm, and northwest India recorded 11.9 mm of rainfall, 72% above the normal.
On Friday, the Gujarat region received the highest rainfall at 108.7 mm, followed by Konkan and Goa at 52 mm, according to IMD data. IMD has issued a red alert for Gujarat amid a forecast of exceptionally heavy rainfall till Saturday.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in five, "large deficient" in 13, "deficient" in eight, and "normal" in four, according to the data. End
